2003
Saw the début of a new car, the 1999 Winston
TF dragster formally driven by Gary Scelzi. Highlights include
our quickest 60 ft times ever, qualifying 15th at the NHRA Car
Quest Nationals (getting beat 1st round by Kenny Bernstein–again!).
At the AHRA
World Finals the Team qualified 2nd and had a semi-finals finish.
2002
Was highlighted by our performance at the AHRA World Finals at
Spokane with a #1 qualifying and runner up finish.
In Seattle the Team qualified 16th at NHRA
Lucas Oil Products Northwest Nationals and were defeated in
round one by 2001 NHRA World Champion Kenny Bernstein.
2001
The Team competed in the same two races as 2002. The Team qualified
# 16 at the 14th
annual Prolong Super Lubricants Northwest NHRA Nationals in
Seattle and was defeated in round one by the reigning NHRA World
Champion Gary Scelzi.
2000
The season had two highlights the first running our best speed
of 297 MPH at the 14th annual CHECKER
SCHUCK'S KRAGEN NATIONALS in Phoenix and qualifying number
2 at Spokane. Unfortunately exploding engines ended both weekends.
1999
No highlights to report.
1998
Was an outstanding year for the Team. Highlighted by a Team best
ET of 4.93 sec., qualifying at both NHRA events entered and being
number one qualifier and low ET of meet at the AHRA World Finals.
1997
The Ron Smith Motorsports Top Fueler also had a great year, including
introducing a new car and winning the AHRA World Finals, at Spokane
Washington. This was a repeat of Ron’s 1994 win over Clayton Harris
and 1987 win over a field which included former World Champions
Chris Karamesines, Don Garlits and Gary Beck. Ron is the first
three-time winner in AHRA Top Fuel.
